Elvis: A Musical Revolution is a new stage musical based on the King of Rock n Roll. Authorised by Elvis Presley Enterprises, the show enjoyed its world premiere in Australia.
We were thrilled to receive an invite to opening night, taking place at Sydney’s gorgeous State Theatre.
Featuring over 40 hit songs, Elvis: A Musical Revolution celebrates the extraordinary life of the award winning, cultural icon.
From his childhood in Mississippi, to his triumphant ‘68 Comeback Special, and ascent to become ‘The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’, this high-energy production explores the pivotal moments in Elvis’s life and music career through the perspectives of those who knew him best.
Songs include Jailhouse Rock, Hound Dog, That’s All Right, All Shook Up, Suspicious Minds, Heartbreak Hotel, Burning Love, Blue Suede Shoes, Good Rockin’ Tonight, Can’t Help Falling In Love, Don’t Be Cruel, Are You Lonesome, Return To Sender, Teddy Bear, A Big Hunk O’ Love, See See Rider, A Little Less Conversation and more.
With an all-star Australian cast, dazzling choreography, and hit after hit, you simply can’t help falling in love!
The lead role is demanding to say the least. Elvis left giant shoes to fill, and Australia’s Rob Mallet does a spectacular job at embodying the voice, presence and gyrating hips of the King. Another performer who absolutely lit up the stage was Kirby Burgess in the role of Ann-Margaret – one of Elvis’ costars who was a legendary dancer and performer in her own right, one of very few who could hold her own alongside the King. Burgess really did justice to the fast-paced choreography from Michael Ralph.
The show was written by David Abbinanti and Sean Cercone. Together they have worked on a slew of hit internationally touring musicals such as Saturday Night Fever: The Musical and Ghost: The Musical. Additionally David composed the Orchestrations, Arrangements and Additional Music & Lyrics.
The show comes at a time of renewed interest in the music and story of Elvis, following Baz Luhrman’s epic biopic. With this new stage show, audiences of all ages have the chance to connect with the music of a generation that continues to have an undeniable cultural impact.
