An extraordinary tale of creation and humanity, retold in a large-scale theatrical event.
Victor Frankenstein, a grieving but brilliantly ambitious young scientist, pushes the boundaries of theory and morality to create a living being from the remains of the dead. But playing God has its consequences…
Combining cutting edge production elements with virtuosic storytelling, Frankenstein promised a night of thrilling theatre of monstrous proportions – bringing Mary Shelley’s classic screaming into the 21st century.
We were excited to receive an invite to opening night of this play at Sydney’s Theatre Royal, and keen to see the cast in action – especially our beautiful friend Chloé Zuel, stepping back on stage for the first time since originating the role of Eliza in Hamilton. And for the first time since becoming a mother! As expected, she gave a stunning performance.
For over two centuries Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein has captivated audiences with her timeless literary classic, considered by many as the very first science fiction novel.
In this faithful yet contemporary large-scale theatrical stage adaptation, Frankenstein was brought to life in new epic proportions.
The cast were truly spectacular, but we were also impressed by the level of production surrounding them. Massive LED video screens were used to great effect, along with rotating and evolving set pieces, pyrotechnic explosions and a dramatic sweeping score. With a story built on technical advances, these elements really brought the show to visceral life.
Victor’s miracle of science becomes a monster that threatens to destroy everything his creator holds dear. Can Victor redeem his unthinkable actions, or will he succumb to the horrors of his own making?
