Lesbian DJ Tracy Young quietly makes Grammy History

The Grammy’s glass ceiling has been shattered! Congratulations to DJ Tracy Young for winning Best Remixed Recording at the 2020 Grammy Awards. The win feels like a long time coming for a DJ / Producer who’s been at the forefront of the scene for decades now. However, it takes on even more significance when you realise that no female producer has ever been nominated in the category.

The Grammys have had a rough few years when it comes to lack of female representation. In 2018 only two female winners were presented during the telecast. Time and time again, no females are nominated for Producer of the Year. Two years ago, CEO Neil Portnow suggested women “step up.” He subsequently stepped down as CEO.

It’s fitting that Tracy snatched the trophy for her remix of Madonna’s ‘I Rise’. It was Madonna who discovered the DJ in the mid-90’s. After hearing her play, the music legend hired Tracy to spin at her movie premieres, album releases, and even her wedding. Tracy started remixing Madonna’s hits (14 so far!) and it wasn’t long before other artists came knocking. She’s since clocked over 60 #1 Billboard Club hits for the likes of Beyoncé, Cher, Pink, Rihanna and Lady Gaga. She’s also spun at Britney’s 21st, Kylie’s US tour and Sydney Mardi Gras.

During her Grammy speech, Tracy thanked her “LQBTQ friends, club-goers and music lovers who have supported my career from the beginning” closing her speech saying she will “proudly accept this on behalf of all female producers who have been overlooked.”

Long time supporter, and thought I’d drop a comment.

Your wordpress site is very sleek – hope you don’t mind me
asking what theme you’re using? (and don’t mind if I steal
    it? :P)

I just launched my site –also built in wordpress like yours– but the theme slows (!) the site down quite
    a bit.

In case you have a minute, you can find it by searching for “royal cbd” on Google (would
appreciate any feedback) – it’s still in the works.

Keep up the good work– and hope you all take care of yourself during the coronavirus scare!
