After a successful Melbourne season, Cinderella finally opened in Sydney after being pushed back a year due to the Covid restrictions. We were thrilled to score an invite to opening night at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre, where we walked the red carpet and got to take in this gorgeous production.
Rodgers + Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA is the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical from the creators of The Sound of Music that delighted Broadway audiences with its surprisingly contemporary take on the classic tale.
The Sydney cast were spectacular to say the least. The elegant Shubshri Kandiah as Ella (Cinderella) comes to the show fresh from having portrayed Princess Jasmine in Disney’s Aladdin. Next up she will star as Belle in the revival of Beauty & The Beast. As the charming Prince Topher, the charismatic Ainsley Melham was recently seen in the title role in Pippin, and starred as Aladdin on the West End, across Australia and on Broadway. Silvie Paladino is resplendent as the Fairy Godmother as she flew over the audience and belted to the rafters.

This lush production features costume transformations (in a similar style to Frozen The Musical) and all the iconic moments – the pumpkin, the glass slipper, the masked ball and some surprising modern twists to the script.
The show features some of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s most beloved songs – which we remembered best from the Cinderella remake starring Whitney Houston and Brandy. “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible,” “Ten Minutes Ago” and “There’s Music In You” are all showstoppers.

Cinderella is a classic piece of theatre. It’s romantic, heartwarming and a perfect date night.
