THERE’S LIFE AFTER ROMEO

What if Romeo’s ending, was Juliet’s beginning?

Shakespeare gets remixed with some of the world’s most loved and glittering pop anthems of all time, in the new musical & JULIET.

In partnership with Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, the production hosted a special performance to kick off Sydney’s Mardi Gras weekend.

We were lucky enough to be invited along as special guests to the evening, which set out to empower and celebrate the queer community. The musical was followed by an exclusive post-show Q&A, where the Australian production’s cast and creative team discussed the LGBTQIA+ presence throughout the show and how they brought their own identities to the stage.

As part of & JULIET’s commitment to respect, equity, inclusion and belonging for all, a donation to Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras was made on behalf of the production to further community outreach initiatives.

And what a perfect show to kick off a weekend of gay pride. This feel-good musical is packed with smash hits from queer icons Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson to name a few.

The following week we were back again, invited to attend the show’s official opening night. And a true testament to the quality of the show – we couldn’t wait to see it all again!

The Emmy-winning writer from Schitt’s Creek flips the script on Shakespeare in this hilarious and poignant story of self-discovery and second chances. Legendary songwriter; Max Martin delivers one of the most addictive and joyous soundtracks to ever hit the stage, in an inspiring new musical that proves there’s life after Romeo.

After premiering on the West End and earning a staggering 8 x Olivier Awards nominations, & JULIET has also been one of the most unexpected and spectacular theatrical triumphs on Broadway.

Alongside this laugh-out-loud and heart-warming story, comes a playlist of songs that is truly second to none in the world of pop music including, Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Since U Been Gone’, Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’, Britney Spears’ ‘…Baby One More Time’, Backstreet Boys’ ‘Larger Than Life’, Justin Timberlake’s ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’ and much more!

It’s staggering to think that all of these pop anthems – from such a wide variety of artists, genres and decades – were all written by the same songwriter, the musical genius Max Martin. Watching the story unfold, it’s also hard to believe that they weren’t written for the show as they help tell the story in such poignant and specific ways.

The Australian cast does the show proud, with many stand out performances. Lorinda May Merrypor as Juliet is spectacular. She possess an awesome pop vocal – a strikingly similar tone to singer Samantha Jade – perfectly suited to make these pop melodies soar.

Casey Donovan continues her reign as an absolute queen of the stage. Her rendition of P!nk’s F**kin’ Perfect brought instant goosebumps and had the audience roaring in response.

& JULIET creates a mind-blowing concert-like atmosphere that had the audience leaping to their feet. If you have a chance to see this show, GO! You will not be disappointed.
