LILO & STITCH

Sydney lit up for the live-action Lilo & Stitch premiere – a night that brought Hawaiian sunshine straight to Hoyts EQ.

Disney knows how to turn a film launch into an experience, so this was a full-blown celebration of story, culture and community. The blue carpet buzzed with island prints, tropical colour, live performances and a crowd that arrived already smiling.

Inside the cinema, the film delivered exactly what audiences hoped for: warmth, humour and a heartfelt new take on a beloved classic.

Newcomer Maia Kealoha is a revelation as Lilo – playful, spirited and instantly lovable. And Stitch? Perfectly realised in live action: chaotic, mischievous and unexpectedly tender. Every scene lands with that signature mix of mayhem and heart that made the original such a phenomenon.

The film honours everything fans cherish about Lilo & Stitch – the Hawaiian spirit, the meaning of family, the humour, the softness and the wild alien-meets-earth energy – while giving it a vibrant modern refresh.

The premiere itself felt like a mini Hawaiian escape in the middle of Sydney: tropical music, themed drinks and gifts, warm energy and that unmistakable Disney magic woven through every detail.

A beautiful film. A beautiful premiere. And a timely reminder that “ohana means family” – and family means nobody gets left behind.

Disney also used the celebration to embrace Pride, making it clear that message extends to the LGBTQ+ community and chosen family.
