Introducing 90sGay – the new spin-off podcast series from Mr n Mister, which sets out to take a deep dive into Queer art and culture from the golden era of the 90s.
Starting life as an Instagram time capsule, it quickly grew into a huge online community which serves as part flashback, part history lesson.
On the debut episode of the podcast we chat with creative genius Mr. Vincent Paterson – whose work defined the era.
This acclaimed director and choreographer is responsible for reshaping the live pop concert, with Madonna’s Blond Ambition world tour – forever immortalised in her tour documentary, Truth Or Dare.
This tour was the first of its kind – blending rock concert with theatre, elaborate costume changes, moving set pieces and a show divided into themed “acts.” To this day it is the blueprint for a live concert experience.
He also created some of Madonna’s most memorable award show performances – her vampy Academy Awards performance of Sooner Or Later from Dick Tracy, and her iconic Marie Antoinette-inspired Vogue from the MTV VMAs.
In the world of film, he created Robin Williams unforgettable dance scene from The Birdcage.
These were all huge breakthroughs where the world saw gay culture and gay characters being celebrated and brought into the forefront.
We start in this episode with Vincent’s entrance into the industry – working with Michael Jackson, for whom he created the legendary Smooth Criminal and transformed the Super Bowl half time show from a toilet break during a football game into a spectacle that stopped the world.
