SIMPLY THE BEST

We were so excited to get an invite to the opening night of ‘TINA – The Tina Turner Musical’ at Sydney’s Theatre Royal.

This musical has made major waves on the West End, where it has been running for 5 years – not to mention a Broadway run followed by a US tour.

With 37 international award nominations including Best New Musical (Olivier Awards) and Best Musical (Tony Awards), this heart-pumping production raises the roof.

Featuring more than 20 of her iconic songs, including “Simply the Best”, “What’s Love Got to Do with It” and “Proud Mary”, this smash-hit is not to be missed – and now the musical is rollin’ into Sydney!

Her story is well known, having been told by Tina in her best-selling autobiography “I, Tina” and the incredible motion picture “What’s Love Got To Do With It’ – where Angela Bassett literally became Tina before our very eyes. The body, the mannerisms, the electrifying moves, the legs! Bassett scored a Best Actress Oscar nomination for the role, leaving big shoes for any actress to fill who attempts to take on the role.

Tina’s story unflinchingly tackles a lot of deep topics – racism, domestic violence, ageism, religion – and finding the strength within to overcome adversity.

From humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her transformation into the global Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Tina Turner didn’t just break the rules, she rewrote them. This is the story of a woman who dared to defy the bounds of her age, gender and race.

One of the world’s best-selling artists of all time, Turner won 12 Grammy Awards and her live shows have been seen by millions, with more concert tickets sold than any other solo performer in music history. Her songs are the soundtrack to our lives – “Nutbush City Limits”, “River Deep, Mountain High”, “Private Dancer”, “We Don’t Need Another Hero”, “I Don’t Wanna Fight” – music that spans generations.

“It’s really important to me to have the chance to share my full story. This musical is not about my stardom. It is about the journey I took to get there,” says Turner. “Each night I want audiences to take away from the theatre that you can turn poison into medicine.”

The show is inspiring, uplifting, and brings audiences to their feet long before the final bows. The opening night response was phenomenal, with the cast literally tearing the roof off the theatre. For a rocking night out, you have to see this show!
