Despite having lived in Sydney our whole lives, it’s crazy to think we’d never done the Bridge Climb before. I guess when you live here you think there isn’t any huge rush to tick this off your bucket list. But let us tell you – whether you are a tourist or local, this is not something you should put off any longer.
The experience was spectacular in every way imaginable. Our tour guide Jake was full of insight and humour, sharing remarkable stories and facts from the time the bridge was being built. Each person in our group had a headset so we could listen and communicate as we climbed. This added a really nice personal touch, and some genuinely moving insight into the history of this globally recognised landmark.
The climb itself was easier than I expected. It is lengthy – ours took 2.5 hours, so make sure you go to the toilet before you start. But it wasn’t strenuous at all, and even being slightly fearful of heights, we felt totally safe the whole time.
You can choose what time of day you climb, and each offers a uniquely magical experience. Witness the sunrise over the harbour at first light of dawn, or you can opt for twilight hour where you can watch the colours of the sky melt into the evening. The night climbs allow you to view the city lit up in all its glory.
And that view when you reach the top? It literally gives you goosebumps. Your tour guide is equipped with a professional camera and snaps a bunch of images and a video at key points. Jake was super generous with this, taking individual, couple and group shots to make sure we were all happy with our souvenirs. We then got a copy of everything on a USB.

The bridge attracts a diverse range of climbers – kids and folks of all ages, plus an impressive list of celebrities. It’s easy to see why, as this is a world class experience. It’s also been the choice location for countless proposals… hint hint!
