THE THIRST IS REAL

We asked Thom at Catalyst & Flow about the value of keeping hydrated:

“The importance of water cannot be underestimated. Every system, pathway, reaction and function in the body is, in some way, reliant on water and its components (hydrogen and oxygen).

Water aids in detoxification, contributes to blood volume, supports thermoregulation, and is vital for cell function. Symptoms of dehydration can include headaches, low energy, fatigue, dry skin and it can cause poor regulation of hormones and neurotransmitters.

The typical recommendation is about 1.5L – 2L per day depending on your age, gender, height, weight and level of physical activity.

It’s important to avoid ever feeling thirsty 🥵 Why? Because by the time you *feel* thirsty, you’re already dehydrated – so keep your fluids up!

My top hydration tips include:

💧 Have 500mL of room temperature water upon rising in the morning. Option to have warm water with fresh squeezed lemon or ACV if palatable. Use a metal straw to avoid acid touching the teeth.

💧 Avoid having water (or other beverages) with meals as this dilutes stomach acid which can impair upper digestive tract function.

💧 Limit tea/coffee intake to 2x per day, replacing others with 250mL water.

💧 Carry a 1L drink bottle with you throughout the day, try to get through it at least once or twice.

💧 Drink one glass of water between every glass of wine/beer/spirit consumed (can be soda water with lemon or lime to keep things a bit spicy!)”
