THE BEST VIEW IN NYC

New York City is the most photographed city in the world. Visitors flock to the Empire State Building to snap a bird’s eye view of the skyline, but did you know there’s actually a better vantage point?

Check out ‘Top Of The Rock’ – the observation deck on top of the NBC building at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. We’ve done both, and while each offers a great experience there are several reasons why Top Of The Rock is best.

At a base level, it’s a cheaper ticket and the wait time is much shorter. (While you can get a Fast Access ticket for Empire State but you have to pay a premium for that).

However, the main difference you don’t actually realise till you’re up there.

While Empire State offers spectacular views, on a standard ticket you’re actually looking from behind large metal fencing. So no chance of snapping a shot of you and you’re loved one with an unobstructed skyline in the background. In order to get a good shot, you need to poke your camera through the bars. Oh and it’s hella windy up there.

Over at Top Of The Rock a standard ticket offers three observation decks. The 67th floor is an indoor viewing area, so weather is never an issue. Huge open-air terraces on the 69th and 70th floors provide breathtaking views of the Chrysler Building, Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, and rather than inside metal bars, you’re either behind large glass panels or completely unobstructed, so your Instagram will be breathtaking.

We’ve done it both day and night, and the outlook is remarkably unique. Daytime offers indescribable views of Central Park, while at night the park is in darkness and the lit skyline steals the show.

For most people, the Empire State is a key feature of the skyline so it makes sense that you’d actually want it in your shots – rather than shooting from inside it.
